In September, 2007, GAR signed a 10-year cooperation agreement (with an option to extend for a further 10 years) with “Cooperativa Agrícola Limitada de Picada Libertad” in the Argentine province of Misiones for the cultivation of castor and Jatropha curcas.

This agreement provides for the planting of castor bean (ricinus communis) on 6,000 hectares and Jatropha curcas on 5,000 hectares during 2007, by hundreds of local farmers.

The contract also stipulates the planting of 30,000 more hectares with castor beans and/or Jatropha by the end of 2009. Based on previous experience in the region, the anticipated yield will reach 1.5 tons of castor oil per hectare. GAR will also manage the extraction and processing of the final product.
